The U.S. government has launched America.gov, a new centralized digital gateway designed to make it easier for people to find federal government information and access public services online.
The platform, unveiled on September 29, 2026, is intended to provide a single starting point for Americans looking for government services rather than requiring users to navigate numerous individual federal agency websites.
What Is America.gov?
America.gov is being developed as a central online entry point for federal services and information. According to the General Services Administration (GSA), its AI-enhanced search can draw information from more than 29,000 government websites.
The goal is to simplify how people find relevant government programs, requirements and services. Instead of knowing which federal agency handles a particular issue, users can start with America.gov and search for the information or service they need.
The platform is part of a broader federal effort to modernize access to government services and create a more unified digital experience.
AI-Powered Search for Government Services
One of the main features of America.gov is its AI-powered search capability. The system is designed to help users find relevant information across federal government websites and present it through a centralized interface.
The administration says the platform will continue to expand its ability to connect users with federal services. Planned capabilities include services such as passport renewal and Medicare enrollment.
These additions are expected to make America.gov more than a government information directory by allowing users to access or begin certain services directly through the centralized platform.
Federal Agencies to Connect Services
The launch follows an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate covered, high-use online services with America.gov.
The initiative also calls for integration with Login.gov, the federal government’s secure sign-in platform, where applicable. The aim is to provide users with a more consistent way to access participating government services.
Not all federal services will be included. Certain services, including some tax-related and national-security-sensitive systems, are excluded from the requirements.
What America.gov Means for Users
For users, the biggest change is intended to be simpler navigation. Rather than having to determine whether a service is handled by the Department of State, Social Security Administration, Medicare, or another federal agency, users can begin their search from one centralized website.
The effectiveness of the platform will depend on how quickly federal agencies integrate their services and how extensively America.gov develops its direct-service capabilities.
For now, the launch represents an initial step toward a more centralized federal digital-services system, with additional services expected to be added over time.
