Singapore is tightening safeguards for the marketing of financial products in public spaces to protect consumers from unsolicited sales approaches and improve the conduct of financial representatives.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) announced the enhanced measures on October 12, 2026, focusing on how financial institutions conduct promotional activities and approach potential customers in public settings.
Under the new safeguards, financial institutions are expected to conduct promotional activities, including roadshows, only in designated areas within commercial premises. They must also ensure appropriate supervision of representatives involved in these activities.
Financial representatives will be required to disclose at the outset that they intend to market financial products or services and obtain consumers’ consent before continuing the interaction.
The measures also maintain existing restrictions on street canvassing and door-to-door prospecting, reinforcing Singapore’s approach to responsible financial product marketing.
MAS plans to issue updated Guidelines on Standards of Conduct for Marketing and Distribution Activities in 2027. Financial institutions will have a nine-month transition period after the guidelines are issued to implement the new requirements.
The enhanced safeguards aim to make financial product marketing more transparent and better supervised while giving consumers greater control over whether they engage with sales representatives.
